Enterprise Career Path: Truck Rental Manager Azim H

How does a young man born in Bangladesh find himself working in Toronto as a Canadian citizen after growing up in Singapore, going to college in Pennsylvania and starting a career in Atlanta?
The answer is hard work.
Group Truck Rental Manager Azim H. began working for Enterprise as a Management Trainee in Atlanta after graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He chose Enterprise because of the culture of customer service and the many career paths offered to those in the Management Training Program.
“Enterprise rewards those who go the extra mile for customers,” says Azim. “If you work hard and are dedicated, you will see tremendous opportunities.” Within two years of joining Enterprise, Azim was promoted to Area Rental Manager in Atlanta.
However, with his U.S. work Visa about to expire, Azim had some decisions to make. “I chose to stay with Enterprise and move to another country,” says Azim. “Toronto was my first choice since I have friends and family there. Because of my performance with the company, Enterprise was instrumental in helping with the move and my transition to the Truck Rental team in Canada.”
“When Azim came to Toronto, he immediately made an impact,” says Vice President/General Manager Steve T. “Employees gravitated to him as an informal mentor because of his leadership, confidence and diverse background.”
“I believe the best way to mentor people is to do it every day to build trust and respect,” says Azim. “I love seeing people be successful, and success breeds success, which helps me grow my business and the company overall.”
Azim has also been very active on his group’s diversity and inclusion team. “Employing people from diverse backgrounds makes a company stronger, because they can look at problems in a different way and create different solutions,” says Azim.
Azim and the diversity team held a meeting for employees from diverse backgrounds and invited department heads and general managers to engage in discussions about how the group could continue to promote and develop diverse talent across the business. These discussions led the group to create an informal mentor program to connect female and diverse management trainees with top performing managers who could help speed their development in all areas of the business.
The team also works to provide training and create awareness about the importance of hiring a diverse workforce. For example, the group scheduled mock interview sessions for management assistants and assistant managers to coach them on successful interviewing skills including topics such as: appropriate business dress and answering tricky questions.
Azim’s best advice for employees looking for success at Enterprise is to, “make yourself visible and perform well. Don’t be shy about reaching out to introduce yourself to leadership across the organization. Be sure to take advantage of the many resources that Enterprise has created to help you succeed.”
“I have had a great career, and I love what I do. I can’t see myself doing anything else,” says Azim.
